I am currently searching for the best Catastrophic Recovery in California and trying to understand what really separates a good provider from an average one. When a major accident happens involving trucks, buses, or heavy equipment, the recovery process feels extremely complex and high risk. I keep wondering what factors matter most in real situations. Is it response time, equipment quality, crew experience, or coordination with law enforcement and insurance?

I see many companies claiming they handle catastrophic recovery, but how do you actually verify that they are capable of large scale operations? Should I be asking about rotators, air cushion systems, and heavy winching setups? Or is the real difference in the training of the operators and their past recovery cases?

I came across Freedom Heavy Haul (https://freedomheavyhaul.com/our-services/catastrophe-recovery/) while researching and they seem focused on extreme recovery jobs. Has anyone here dealt with them or similar companies in California? How important is it that a company also offers heavy haul transport after recovery instead of just clearing the scene?

Another thing I keep thinking about is cost transparency. In catastrophic situations, do companies usually provide clear pricing or is it mostly emergency based billing? How do you avoid being overcharged when everything is urgent?

If you have experience with catastrophic recovery, what questions should I be asking before choosing a provider, and what mistakes should I avoid when time and safety are critical?
