I totally feel your pain; traveling with dive gear or surfboards can be a total logistical nightmare if you don't plan ahead. The driver was actually waiting for me with a large minivan, and he was super helpful with loading the heavy bags so I didn't have to break my back right after a long flight. It was such a relief to just hop in and go straight to the marina instead of playing Tetris with my luggage in a tiny trunk. If you have extra gear, definitely go for a pre-booked option where you can pick the car type.
