After watching my roommate bounce between motivational interview vs cognitive behavioral therapy, I’m curious what actually sticks. He used MI to find his “why” around quitting late-night scrolling, then CBT to rewire the automatic excuses. I’m in that exact loop and want to hear which one people found more useful first.
I was stuck in that same loop last year - kept telling myself I’d “just check one thing” at night. What helped me was starting with MI to actually care about changing motivational interview stages and core principles , then using CBT to catch the autopilot excuses. MI got me moving, CBT kept me consistent. Without the “why,” CBT felt forced. Together it finally clicked.
