| I’ve always found it interesting that Snake remains enjoyable even though the basic idea is so simple. You control a growing snake, collect items, avoid obstacles or your own tail, and try to survive as long as possible.
What makes Snake work so well is that you can understand the rules almost immediately. There is no complicated tutorial or long introduction. At the same time, the game becomes more difficult as the snake grows, so every move starts to matter.
Modern snake games have also added new ideas to the classic formula. Some versions introduce different maps, power-ups, challenges, score systems, or competitive elements while keeping the basic movement mechanic intact. This makes me wonder how much a classic game can change before it stops feeling like Snake.
For me, the most interesting part is the balance between simple controls and increasingly difficult decisions. A move that looks safe when the snake is short can become a problem later when there is less space to move.
Do you still play Snake occasionally? What do you think makes a good Snake game today: the classic simple gameplay, modern features, higher difficulty, or something else?
