| Hello,
I'm fairly new to any type of web security, so I really want to know the best ways to secure websites as a whole. I have come across a lot of information, but it seems overwhelming, and I don't feel super confident starting on my own. I am largely interested in specifically securing basic websites, and more importantly, securing against common threats like SQL injection, XSS, and brute-forcing.
For some background, I know a little about best devops tools and some of the basic practices like HTTPS and updating software often and correctly, but I'm interested to hear how other people go about securing their sites using tools and methods. For instance, what are some of the recommended security plugins or firewalls for Wordpress or any other CMS? And more to the point, how do I effectively protect sensitive assets on my sites and ensure privacy for my users?
Also, I have seen some penetration testing and would be interested to know if anyone has any recommendations for tools or systems for a simple self-test to start understanding how or what could make my own things stronger.
I'm really looking forward to hearing peoples experiences, feedback, and advice. Thanks in advance!
Sincerely, Megancharlotte
